I’ve created a roadtrip guide from northern Italy to Puglia with eleven of my favorite foodie destinations!
From the famous Ragù alla Bolognese in Bologna to the humble Taralli crackers of Puglia, it’s all here! Of course, there’s plenty to drink, too, from the decadent coffee drink Caffè Speciale in Polignano a Mare to a dismissed but delicious sparkling wine from Emilia-Romagna. And don’t forget the sweets! It seems every town and village has their own unique treat like the “Bear Bread” of Abruzzo and the colorful candied almonds called Confetti.
This isn’t your typical Rome, Florence, Venice guide. In fact, those cities aren’t mentioned here. There’s some popular locations like Bologna, but mostly it’s under-the radar destinations like Mont Sant’Angelo and Scanno in Aburzzo and rough and tumble Bari in Puglia.
