The Odd Library in Nice, France

Tete Carree

In 2002, French sculptor Sacha Sosno unveiled his newest work Nice. Called Tete Carree aka Thinking Inside the Box, the massive 85 foot sculpture is a giant cube resting on a person’s chin.

I’ve seen the Tete Carree explained as a library and, alternatively, as library administrative offices. Either way, as of this writing, the building is closed for renovations. However, viewing the giant square head from street level or from the adjacent garden is a thought provoking experience.

How to get Nice

Nice Cote d’Azur Airport (NCE) has direct flights to most major cities in Europe as well several in North America, the Middle East, and northern Africa. A tram links the airport to the city center.

High speed trains connect Nice and Marseille (about 2.5 hours). A trip to Paris is almost 6 hours. However, this is expected to be reduced to under 4 hours when the LGV Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur line is completed (expected in 2035).
